harris-erica.jpgAmongst Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow’s many sub-plots is that of the plastic Imipolex G and how the “protagonist”, Tyrone Slothrop, has been conditioned to get sexually aroused in its presence, which becomes a problem for him when the Germans begin using it in their V-2 rockets. His attraction to this plastic eventually leads him across war-torn Europe and to his eventual “disintegration”. This set featuring Erica is a lot like that. We find our protagonist, Erica in this case, awfully aroused by a piece of plastic. It’s not a V-2 rocket with a sex-slave encased inside of it, but it is rocket-like and there is a schwarzgerät of sorts in that weird, black styrofoam thing she’s holding onto. Like Slothrop, Erica’s sexual attraction to this material brings her closer and closer to her own “disintegration” (and by that, I do mean orgasm). Unlike what happens in GR, Erica is the one to follow “gravity’s rainbow” to impale herself, pussy first, onto the “rocket” and “explode”, the inverse of the usual relationship between rocket and target, but the end result is pretty much the same. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this set and GR mirror each other to a certain degree. According to Ron Harris’ website, he makes art and not porn, and artists often draw their inspiration from writing. As such, I believe this is Ron Harris’ interpretation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel, and though it might not be as dense as grandiose as the novel, it does feature a much hotter protagonist, and really, it’s just more pleasant to look at naked girls than it is to read about dudes swimming through sewage, and thus I declare Ron Harris’ interpretation to be far superior to Gravity’s Rainbow. Suck it, Pynchon fans.
